FAITH TRUST RESPECT MERCY
Our Leadership Team
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we come to the end of Term One, I would like to thank all students, parents and carers who have contributed to the success of the various events that have been part of our school program so far this year. I would especially like to congratulate the students for a wonderful term, filled with self-driven learning and for attacking all tasks with enthusiasm and vigour. Thank you to the dedicated and committed staff who prepare and implement programs of work which invigorate and challenge our students across all learning areas and for their selfless giving of their time and talents. I think we have all earned a holiday!
As this is our final newsletter for the term and as we head towards Easter, the most significant time of our Church’s Year, I wish you a restful break and a blessed and joyous Easter! Please note that Term Two will begin for staff on Monday 19 April and the students on Tuesday 20 April. On Monday, the staff will be joining a few of our other local Catholic schools in learning all about the Making Jesus Real program that brings the Catholic faith to life for our students by showing them how to live it every day. We will give them the tools they need to feel the Spirit of Jesus each day and find the God Moments that are always happening around them.
ANXIETY IN CHILDREN - Parent Information Session
It was great to have so many parents attend the 'Anxiety In Children' Parent Workshop, run by Leigh Thomas Senior Psychologist from Catholic Education WA Ltd, on Tue 30 March. Mrs Jacqui Chivell and Ms Angela Leddin attended both the staff and parent sessions. Thank you also to those parents who responded via the online link that was sent out to all parents via Seesaw. We plan to run a few more parent information sessions and are interested in the topics you would like to see covered.
PARENT SURVEY
Keep an eye out for an online survey I will be sending out early in Term Two, via a link on Seesaw, asking for constructive feedback and ideas from parents on a variety of areas as we continue on our COVID Roadmap journey. I ask that you take this opportunity to respond, as we value your collective input and we look forward to working together with you for the benefit of your children and the wider Liwara community.
CLASS REPRESENTATIVES
Thank you very much to all our parents who have volunteered to be a Class Rep this year. It is great to see the support from those who have taken on this important role to support the teachers and the classes in 2021, by liaising with the teachers and keeping parents informed about events as well as organising social outings within class groups.
CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS
If you have some spare time and are able to help out at our school canteen on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, please contact Deb Fraser on 6224 2014 or pop in to see her on Monday, Thursday or Friday. Having volunteers gives our creative canteen staff the opportunity to make even more tasty home cooked treats for our students. We will be sending out a short survey early next term to get your input and feedback on the items we currently have on the menu and any other new healthy items that families would like to see on there. I look forward to your feedback! The updated Term Two menu will be sent out via Seesaw very soon.
WINTER UNIFORM
Term Two heralds the return of our winter uniforms, as we will be expecting some nice cool weather. The students will have a two week transition period, as some of the winter stocks are currently exhausted but should be back in stock by the start of the term. Please do not let your children worry if they are not in full winter uniform to begin the term! It will be wonderful to see the majority of our students come back to school in their winter attire, looking crisp and just as smart as when they do in their summer garb, as outlined in the Uniform Requirements document on the school website. The information lists all uniform requirements for our Year One to Year Six students. I thank all parents and carers for their support in making sure the students return to school ’kitted out’ for the winter months. The uniform shop will keep parents who have ordered winter uniforms informed about when they are available for pick up.
CONGRATULATIONS
We take this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Federica Huntington who became an Australian Citizen on 24th March, 2021. Federica was born in Miami U.S.A and her family originated from Argentina and we are delighted that she has chosen Australia to be her forever home.
KINDY & PRE KINDY 2022/2023 I will be starting the Kindy 2022 interview process next term and I urge you to contact the office if you have a child who is eligible to attend Kindy in 2022/23 and who has not yet been enrolled. The numbers are filling so it is imperative you contact the office, immediately, if you have not enrolled your child for Kindy 2022. We have also been calling for Pre Kindy 2022 enrolments so if you have a child who will be eligible for Pre Kindy 2022 contact Karen Rosser, our Enrolment Officer as soon as the new term begins.
Wishing you God’s blessings as we journey towards Easter.

Thank you to all the students and their teachers for bringing our attention to the pain, glory and teachings of Jesus during this time. Please take the time to remember this during the Easter period.

Sustainability@Liwara
Sustainability@Liwara
Well, it has been another amazing fortnight of Liwara sustainability. Our gardens are looking great and even the lettuces are growing. We look forward to the beginning of our new school recycling depository. The concrete footing slab should be laid soon. I thank the rest of the Liwara sustainability team for their support of sustainability initiatives in our school.
Below, you can see that the lettuces have been planted ready for Term 2. We hope, that when we return to school, we will be able to harvest more vegetables and continue to supplement our school canteen’s supply.
Handy Hints for Sustainability
This week’s handy hint is “Shop at local thrift stores”. “Thrift stores” is an Americanism for stores that resell used items, such as our very own Vinnies.
News flash: Shopping second-hand is cool! Rather than contribute to waste production by shopping new, why not go to your local Vinnies store for clothing, furniture, decor and housewares. This is an excellent way of reusing items in your own community and switching to a more sustainable lifestyle. People even go to Vinnies stores to buy bowls and cups into which they plant succulent plants for around the house. Now that’s great reuse of materials and it supports people in our local community. Why not take your kids on a ‘thrift store’ adventure this Easter holidays and see what treasures you can find!
We look forward to Term 2, a busy eleven-week term, and wish everyone a safe and happy Easter holiday.
Together we all make a difference. STAY SAFE and KEEP RECYCLING Liwara!
Warm regards,
Mr Greenhill and the Liwara Sustainability Team
