Lord, as we prepare for the coming of a new term, make us ready, attentive and available to hear you.
Thank You for the gift of being able to rise each day with the assurance that You walk through it with us.
Thank You for the gifts of creativity and uniqueness, and the energy to put them to good use.
May all that we are today, all that we try to do today, may all our encounters, reflections, even the frustrations and failings all be place in your hands.
May the work we do and the way we do it, bring new hope, new life, and courage to all we come in contact with this term. We thank you, Lord.
Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 3. I hope you all had a relaxing holiday, with your children who are now working hard in their first week back.
Mrs Millar is on Long Service Leave till Friday 29th July and Miss Angela Leddin will be the Short Term Principal during this time. We wish Mrs Millar a relaxing break.
At the end of last term we celebrated NAIDOC Week, as this often occurs during the school holidays. The classes participated in many exciting activities around the theme ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! Thank you to the GECKOS team for organising these fantastic activities for the students to enjoy.
There are a few staff changes commencing at the beginning of Term 3. As previously mentioned in the newsletter, Mrs Margetic has retired. She is already enjoying her new lifestyle. Starting on Tuesday 26th July, we welcome Mrs Samantha Clark to Liwara as our Library Technician. At the end of last term, we also said farewell to Mrs Anne-Marie Kelsall and Mrs Marita Burston-Stow. Mrs Kelsall has been a teacher at Liwara for many years, most recently as the Visual Arts and Year 2 teacher. Mrs Kelsall was on Long Service Leave in Semester 1. We wish her all best as she sets off on many more travel adventures. Mrs Burston-Stow has been a part of Liwara for many years in a variety of roles. In recent years Mrs Burston-Stow taught in Kindergarten, Pre-Kindy, Year 2 and this year she has been filling a variety of roles including teaching 4G on a Tuesday. We wish Mrs Burston-Stow all the best for her future endeavours and we thank her for being a part of Liwara. We welcome to staff Mrs Butler Ritchie and Mrs Rebecca Marsh who will be working as Education Assistants as part of our Students with Special Needs team.
We will be celebrating our first week back together with a Whole School Mass on Friday 22nd July 9am in the Church. All are welcome to attend.

CLASSROOM NEWS
LEARNING THROUGH GAMES
In Year 5, we learn and consolidate new concepts through games, and we love learning this way. Here’s why:
- Games are fun – we usually end up laughing
- It’s exciting and engaging – if we wrote all the time, it would be boring
- Less pressure than working individually, I feel supported
- We learn from others and their ideas
- Easier to remember the concepts and facts – if we sing it sticks in our head
- They are a great brain break
- We have multiple turns and get repeated practice
- We can play at home if we want with our family
- It can be active – I like moving about
- I’m learning but I don’t know I’m learning
- We learn strategies from others that build on the strategies we already know
