NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS
Voice, Treaty, Truth
Let’s Work Together for a Shared Future
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held around the country each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As NAIDOC Week was in the July school holidays the staff and student celebrated today. Our day began with a Welcome to Country Smoking Ceremony conducted by Dr Simon Forest who was named NAIDOC Perth male Elder of the year in 2018.
The students then grouped with their buddy classes and rotated through activities that included Waabiny Time tabloid games on the school oval. Waabiny Time video and a ‘Walkabout’ or guided walk around the school using their devices to look up QR codes and their skills of observation to answer questions. The students have all also contributed a handprint that will be used to create a mural based on the Noongar Seasons. This artwork will be displayed in the Ahern Centre for all to see and appreciate.
