     Prayer for Start of Term

Be with our children as they begin a new school term.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give them the strength and grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Caregivers

We hope you had a wonderful and restful break! As we embark on a new school term, we are excited to welcome everyone back as well as extending a warm Liwara welcome to our new families who joined our community, late last term and this term.  Here’s to a fantastic and successful term ahead!

P & F COLOUR LAPATHON

We are thrilled to announce that our annual P&F Lapathon is just around the corner! This event is a fantastic opportunity for students, parents and staff to come together, stay active, and support our school community.

We encourage everyone to participate, whether you choose to run, walk, or cheer from the sidelines.  It’s a wonderful way to promote physical fitness and community spirit.

We look forward to seeing you all there for a day of fun, fitness and community bonding!

SEATING & SHADE SAILS - YEAR 6

The new seating  has arrived! The 3 sets will be placed outside the top of the Liwara Hall for our Year 6 students.  They have been assembled in the area between the Library/Yr 6 & Hall while we are waiting for the shade sails to be installed, in time for the sunny weather. Once the sails are in place the benches will be moved to their new ‘home’ so our students have somewhere comfortable to sit and enjoy each other’s company.  A big thank you to our P&F for supporting another great initiative that enhances our students lives at Liwara.

50th ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE PATHWAY

Newly uploaded to our school Facebook page is a flyer and link to an exciting initiative celebrating our 50th Anniversary Year.  We eagerly invite present and past community members to have their family purchase a brick. We will be using the bricks as a  feature of the new pathway which will be created in the area between the back of the Pre-Primary block and the Undercover Area (near the fig tree).  We invite all families who are at Liwara in this significant year, as well as past families, staff and community members to purchase a brick and be a part of the permanent symbol of gratitude - a legacy of our beautiful school. Our P&F are coordinating this project and working with a wholly owned and operated Australian company who prepared the online portal for ordering the 50th Anniversary commemorative bricks.  Families can order multiple bricks - you are not limited to just one! Please share this news with past Liwara School Community members, by sharing the information from our Facebook post.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • P&F Meeting Tuesday 23 July @ 7:00pm in the Liwara Hall – All parents and caregivers are welcome to attend any of our P&F meetings as the more the merrier!

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

  • Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for academic success. Please ensure students arrive on time and are prepared for the school day.
  • Car Park Protocol: Parking in student drop off & pick up bays, in either of the drive through areas, is not allowed. If your car is left unattended in the drive through area your number plate will be recorded and you will be contacted by the school administration.
  • Communication: Stay in touch with your child’s learning through the school’s communication platform, Seesaw. Regular updates and information will be sent out to keep you informed.
  • Volunteering Opportunities: There are many ways to get involved in the school community. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact the Canteen, P&F, classroom or specialist teachers if you have an hour or two to spare.

SCHOOL STUDENT BROADBAND INITIATIVE

The Australian Government has launched the School Student Broadband Initiative to provide free home internet for one year for up to 30,000 unconnected Australian families with school-aged children.

The program is available to all students who lack an active nbn connection at home.  Families can register until Dec 2024.

To be eligible, families must:

Have a child living at home that is enrolled in an Australian school.

Not have an active National Broadband Network (nbn®) Internet service at home.  Having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility.

Live in a home that can access the National Broadband Network via a standard connection – this will be checked for you.

Click on the link below to register:

Marketing and communication resources can be found here.

FAMILY CONNECTIONS

We are creating a 'Liwara Family Tree' display for the 50th Anniversary event being held on Thursday, 5 September.  We are asking families with a multi-generational connection with the school who have children currently attending Liwara, to send in photos of each family member with their names (nee), and the years of attendance/employment at the school.  It would exciting if you could also send in a short blurb to add to the poster, so there is a bit of a 'story' attached.  Please forward copies of your photos and family information to:  50@liwara.wa.edu.au

An example of our display idea is pictured below:

MUSIC NEWS

Get Ready to Rock: Music Students Gear Up for Festival Performances and More!

The Music department have hit the ground running in Term 3 and are eagerly preparing for the upcoming Catholic Performing Arts Festival. We have 82 students representing Liwara in 12 sections across 5 different locations. Months of hard work and dedication are culminating in what promises to be a showcase of our talented young musicians.

Rock Band received badges for the first time this year, and are going from strength to strength in their rehearsals. Their enthusiasm, creativity and good humour make every rehearsal a delight, and they are developing skills each week to better perform, communicate and collaboratively create their own versions of classic pop songs. In Choir, students have been working hard to learn to sing together in 2 and 3 parts, becoming more confident every week and having fun all the while. Their performances last term are a credit to their hard work, and I have no doubt they will do themselves and our school community proud in the Performing Arts Festival and more. Our Music Assembly in Term 2 was also a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of the talent we have here at Liwara, with everything from guitar to flute, and a 'cool' drum debut duet.

Beyond the rigorous rehearsals and preparation, students have been working hard in class, developing music foundations. They have been learning new skills across multiple areas, from the Year 4 cohort exploring what makes an orchestra tick, the early years learning how music can tell a story with the classic animated film Fantasia, to the Year 5 and 6 students learning sea shanties with great enthusiasm! The new rhythm game Stella Ella Ola has been a great success, and it has been a delight to see them playing it with others during their recess and lunch breaks. They are not only honing their skills, they are also forging friendships and creating long lasting memories.

As our busy term kicks into gear, I invite the community to come and see these talented young performers. Tickets for the Performing Arts Festival can be purchased using the link below. Mark your calendars, spread the word, and join us in applauding the hard work, dedication, and passion of our music students. Let the music play on!

PARISH YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS

YOUTH GROUP REPORT

Last week at 24:7 Greenwood we had an awesome night of games and fun with an arts and craft twist. We started our night with card games and fellowship time before moving into our first game for the night. This was followed by a second game before moving into our main activity for the night.

We had an arts and craft activity where everyone had the chance to help with painting the props to help us when demonstrating our new term theme, Life of Faith.

NEXT YOUTH GROUP

This week we will be breaking open our theme for Term 3, Life of Faith. Our goal for this theme is to help the young people realise how they can bring their faith into aspects of their everyday life. We will be having an awesome guest speaker join us to break open this theme by looking at our Family Relationships.
