FAITH TRUST RESPECT MERCY
Our Leadership Team
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
A warm welcome back to school for Term 2! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday break and were able to soak up the glorious weather and get ‘out and about’. A special welcome to our new students and their families. We are delighted to have you in our community and look forward to sharing our Liwara journey with all family members. We are extremely excited to be finally beginning the re-roofing-new ceilings and new air conditioning units on our Year 4/5/OSHC & Enrichment Rooms. I have a pre-start meeting on Monday 2 May when I will have more information of the actual date of site possession.
Our school and OSHC staff have been extremely supportive and selfless with their energy, time and commitment by moving into their temporary ‘homes’ whilst the work is in progress this term. A special thank you to our OSHC parents who have settled into the new routines and gate access just before the end of Term 1 so that Vacation Care could function smoothly in the Ahern Centre. You will all have received communication from the Centre Manager re the change over to Gate #8 from Monday 2 May as we now have a keypad safety device installed which adds a new level of safety for our students whilst at the OSHC program.
While not what we had hoped for, COVID-19 continues to impact on school operations but as you will be aware the Minister for Health, Hon Amber Jade-Sanderson, announced earlier this week that public health measures in Western Australia will be eased to what is now being called ‘baseline settings’. CEWA is working with the Department of Health and the Department of Education to determine the full implication for school operations going forward. A meeting for all principals is scheduled for 8.30am Friday 29 April after which updated School Operating Guidelines will be provided to families. Until then, it has been recommended that, as far as possible, schools continue to adhere to current guidelines for the remainder of this week with the new Operating Guidelines coming into effect in CEWA schools from Monday 2 May 2022. Please note that while masks are no longer mandatory for students or staff from Friday 29, the wearing of masks is encouraged where physical distancing is not possible. With many positive COVID cases currently within our school community, we all need to do what we can to protect ourselves and others.
Liwara Netball Club Thank You! I would like to formally thank the Liwara Netball Club (LNC) present and past presidents, Rebekah Stuber & Megan Finlay, for their parts in sponsoring and supporting the P&F in applying for and being granted a Stronger Communities Grant to assist with the funding for the replacement oval playground. It is wonderful that our Liwara community spirit continues to thrive in so many areas of the school and wider community.
A Construction Update regarding the Smart Freeway Mitchell Southbound: Hester Avenue to Warwick Road is included in this newsletter.
Mother’s Day We will be sending out an invitation early next week to all our mothers and mother figures to attend a Mother’s Day Celebration event in the week following Sunday 8 May. Once we have more information on our school operations moving forward, we will be able to organise something special for our mums, grandmothers and mother figures.
Tuesdays with a Twist! On Tuesdays we will have Phil from Twisties Coffee Van serving up your favourite brew so you can choose whatever it is you feel like on the day that suits your weekly coffee budget! Please take this opportunity to head over to the oval, on Tuesdays after your school drop off run, to grab a coffee and chat with other mums, dads and caregivers to give yourself a great start to the day. We welcome all our families back to Liwara and hope you enjoy this way to reconnect! This initiative has been organised by our lovely Social Worker, Jane Evans!
Winter Uniform A reminder that students should all be in their winter uniform for the next two terms, but if you are waiting for any items that are not yet in stock please assure your child that will be fine until the items come in. It has been wonderful to see the majority of our students back at school in their winter attire, looking crisp and smart!

Our Classroom News
From Year Three
We have had a busy start to Term Two. As part of our History curriculum and to mark the occasion of ANZAC Day our classes made ANZAC biscuits and researched some interesting facts about ANZAC Day. We discussed the different ways we commemorate ANZAC Day including the dawn service, ANZAC day parade and making biscuits.

Vacation Care
What a wonderful Vacation Care! Packed full of exploration, imagination, creativity and above all, fun! During the first week, the children had a blast competing against each other in a numerous min it to win it challenges and loved getting to crack open our star pinata and transforming ourselves with face painting. We explored our senses with giant bubbles and sensory play, created our own fantasy worlds and even stuffed our own Easter bunnies and took part in two different Easter Egg Hunts.
During the second week we loved getting as messy as possible on messy play. We popped balloons full of paint, explored shaving foam play with pasta and paint, used our hands to make masterpieces of art with bubble wrap and paint, explored the wonders of slime, plus so much more. On candle and bath bomb day, we took turns creating our own perfect candles, individualising our candle smells, look and design. We created the perfect bath bombs and even got to take the mould home, that way we could create bath bombs with our friends and family at any time! We also had a blast dressing up as pirates and using face paint to draw battle scars. We created telescopes, hooks, balloon swords and turned ourselves into perfect pirates.
With such fun packed holidays, we can’t wait to see what the July holidays bring.
