Prayer for a New School Year

God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for
the wonder of our being,
for mind, body and spirit.
Be with our children
as they begin a new school year.
Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give them strength and
grace as their bodies grow;
wisdom and knowledge to their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through
Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Caregivers

It is with great excitement and anticipation that we welcome you back to school for 2025. I extend a warm welcome to both returning and new students and families.  I look forward to the upcoming year and along with the rest of our staff I express my commitment to fostering a positive and enriching learning environment. The corridors and classrooms have been buzzing with energy and the air is filled with the promise of endless possibilities.

A special welcome to our new and returning staff who have all been busy preparing, their classroom environments, engaging lessons, exciting projects and interactive activities to make learning not only educational but also enjoyable for all students.  As we embark on this new school year together, let’s celebrate the wonderful community we have and the exciting adventures that lie ahead.  Here’s to a year filled with growth, learning and unforgettable memories!

A special welcome to new staff who have commenced at Liwara this year – Assistant Principal Ms Stefanie Neri; Year 4R Mrs Misty Waters; Year 4G Mrs Jessica Basso; Science Mrs Pia Tilka; Languages – Italian Prof Simone Lobbia; Ms Jieun Park PPG Friday EA.

To our returning families, we are delighted to see familiar faces and are eager to continue the journey of learning and growth together.  Your continued support and involvement make our school a vibrant and nurturing environment for all.

To all our new families and students, we extend a heartfelt welcome.  We understand that starting at a new school can be both exciting and daunting, but rest assured, you are now a part of a very supportive school community.

I hope 2025 is filled with lots of wonderful moments for all.  I encourage you to click here to read a ‘Message from the Executive Director, Mr Wayne Bull, welcoming all in Catholic Education WA a warm welcome.

School Advisory Council and P&F Nominations

Information outlined in two separate flyers were sent out via Seesaw on Thursday 6 February, inviting parents and caregivers to seriously consider nominating for the Parents & Friends OR School Advisory Council. Your involvement is incredibly valuable, and your unique perspectives and skills can make a meaningful difference in shaping our school community.  I encourage you to get involved, share your ideas and contribute to the continued success of our school.  Your help can inspire positive change, and we would love to have you on board.

2025 Family Welcome Gathering & Community Meeting - Thursday 20 February

We are combining a few events this year to encompass: A ‘Welcome to 2025’ for all our families new and continuing; Give families the opportunity to meet and greet the teachers; Mix with other families on the oval with a BYO picnic; Be a part of the brief Community Meeting.  We are also going to take the opportunity to ask all attending parents to register via a QR Code, available at the event, to take part in the voting for candidates for both the P&F and SAC via an electronic voting portal.  The portal will have information from each individual candidate so you can find out about a bit about each of them and why they have nominated, so it will help you with the voting.   A separate invitation for the community event will be sent out early next week with more details so please put this date in your calendars.  We ask that when the invitation is sent out you register your attendance as all families who register will get vouchers for your children to receive a free ice cream from the ice cream van.  We will also have a coffee van on site for all families to purchase hot and cold drinks.  Please do not bring alcohol to the event as this is a family picnic event.

Main Roads Works & Mural Project

GREAT NEWS! We have recently met with the Community & Stakeholder Engagement Manager working on the Main Roads Smart Freeway project and artist Paula Hart who will be working with our students to design a mural to be painted by Paula on the panels just down from our grounds past the shed (see pictures for location).

The artist will be coming in to initially work with a small group of students under the supervision of Mr McGilloway, for an afternoon next week engaging them in a creative thinking session, to determine the students’ themes and approach and their perceptions of LiwaraFollowing the initial workshop, once she has been given the ‘go ahead’ by Main Roads, she will come back for a week to work with all our students under the supervision of Mr McGilloway as part of the students’ Visual Arts lessonsPaula will work with our students to draw out their thoughts, ideas and individual designs which she will then take away to create a large mural to beautify the panels. Her artistic team will be responsible for drawing and painting the entire mural.  It is wonderful that our Liwara students are being given the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful art installation.

Liwara Code of Conduct

As we embark on a new year, it is important to reflect on some expectations again to make Liwara Catholic Primary School a happy and safe place for all to learn, work, play and grow. I ask all families to take the time to access the Community Code of Conduct by clicking the link below:

Code of Conduct statements.docx

A friendly reminder, if you are sharing images of your child on social media whilst at school events, please only upload images of your child, unless you have permission from the family of the other child/ren.

Parking / Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures

Staff Car park #2 is for staff only before school and visitors during the school day.  Parents are asked not to use this carpark before and after school as it is a serious safety hazard as staff do not expect children to be moving between bays when they enter or leave the carpark.

The beginning of each school year always brings a little extra pressure to our surrounding roads during drop-off and pick-up time. Our Kiss and Drive is supervised after school from 3:00 – 3:15pm.  The staff member on duty will send any students to the front office after 3:15 for parents to collect.

Please, never park in the Kiss & Drive areas as this obstructs the flow of traffic and causes unnecessary angst for other carpark users.

Before School Supervision

Before school supervision commences at 8.20am. Students who must arrive between 8.00 am and 8.20am are required to sit outside their classrooms and not move around the school or play with equipment.

Should your child arrive at school before 8.00 am, they need to be enrolled into OSHC. Please contact Sabrina or Marie on 0477 994 123 for more information.

Playgrounds are not supervised by staff before and after school. Parents are asked to keep their children with them and not allow them to play on the playgrounds without staff supervision.

CANTEEN NEWS

We hope that all families had a wonderful break and everyone is happy to be starting the new school year.

For our new families ordering their lunches for the first time, you can find our menu and on-line ordering at www.quickcliqs.com.au.   It is an easy process to create an account and set up your children ready to order a healthy and nutritious lunch.     For returning families you will be prompted to update your new class details before ordering.    We have not made any changes to the menu at this stage, as we feel our menu covers a large range of great options.    Recess will be available over the counter as usual.

Cut off is at 9am for ordering that day, however you can order up to two weeks in advance if you wish.    Just a reminder that we cannot change any ingredients in our sushi or focaccia orders, as they are pre-made for us.    We hope that you love the fresh meals that we make and provide, without all the additives that are often included in store bought items.

Thank you for supporting the Liwara Canteen in 2025.

PARISH YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS

YOUTH GROUP REPORT

Last weekend marked our first night back at 24:7 Greenwood, and we kicked off the term with a splash…literally!

We started the evening with a fun water balloon toss, followed by a game of "Pass the Bucket." These activities got everyone warmed up for an epic water fight, with water balloons and water guns flying everywhere! To top it all off, we finished the night with a classic water slide, ensuring everyone was soaked and smiling.

The evening concluded with a time of fellowship, giving everyone the chance to catch up with friends and share stories from their holidays

NEXT YOUTH GROUP

Next week, we'll be kicking off our exploration of the Term 1 theme:  Lent.  Our goal this term is to go deeper into the meaning of Lent and how it shapes our lives as we prepare to celebrate this important season in the Church.

Throughout the term, we'll hear talks from our leaders and guest speakers, who will share their personal experiences and insights about Lent, helping us reflect on its significance and how we can live it out more full.
